Event Summary
At 4:24 PM PDT, a magnitude 8.7 earthquake occurred approximately 136 km southeast of Petropavlovsk, Kamchatka, Russia. A Tsunami Advisory is now in effect for several coastal regions of British Columbia.

Expected wave arrival: Langara Island – 10:05 PM -
Zone B: Central Coast and Northeast Vancouver Island
Includes: Kitimat, Bella Coola, Port Hardy -
Zone C: West Coast Vancouver Island (Cape Scott to Port Renfrew)
Expected wave arrival: Tofino – 11:30 PM -
Zone D: Juan de Fuca Strait and Greater Victoria
Includes: Saanich Peninsula, Esquimalt, Sooke
What You Need to Know

Strong and dangerous currents are expected.

Do NOT go to the shoreline to observe the waves.

Stay away from beaches, harbours, marinas, bays, and inlets.

If on the water and conditions allow, move your boat to deeper water (180 ft / 55 m) and remain offshore.

Follow local emergency instructions.

Do not return to coastal areas until authorities issue an “All Clear.”
