The City of Prince Rupert is rolling out a new summer pilot program aimed at making recreation more accessible for local youth.
Starting this Saturday and running through the end of August, drop-in gym fees will be waived for anyone 18 and under at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre. Free access will be available every Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m.
Nicole Beauregard, Director of Recreation and Community Services, says the initiative is part of City Council’s effort to provide safe, welcoming spaces where young people can stay active and connect with friends during the summer.
The city says no registration is needed—just show up and play.
The pilot will help determine the impact of free programming on youth participation and community engagement.
