Police are investigating after a stolen vehicle was found crashed at the bottom of a cliff near Dawson Creek late Sunday night.
Just before midnight, RCMP in Dawson Creek received a notification from the car’s OnStar system reporting a crash. The vehicle, a Chevy Malibu reported stolen from Grande Prairie earlier that evening, had been driven up Bear Mountain and pushed over an 80-foot drop near a wind turbine.
When officers arrived at the scene, they could still see the vehicle’s headlights glowing from the ravine below. The Dawson Creek Fire Department was called in to search the wreck for any occupants. Fortunately, no one was found inside.
Investigators believe the crash was intentional and are trying to determine who was responsible. They have not released any suspect information at this time.
The area where the car was found is known for its steep terrain and limited access, raising questions about how the vehicle was brought there unnoticed.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Dawson Creek RCMP detachment at 250-784-3700.
