Fort St. John RCMP responded to a robbery report at a motel on July 18, at around 2:16 p.m., involving a female victim and three male suspects allegedly armed with handguns. Several police units, including the Fort St. John frontline officers, plainclothes officers, Municipal Traffic, and BC Highway Patrol, rushed to the scene. Officers made several calls to the suspects, who were believed to be hiding in the motel room. In response to the initial report, police took immediate action, with weapons drawn. After three men exited the building, they were taken into custody.
Upon further investigation, police determined that no robbery had occurred. The complainant had received exaggerated third-party information, which led to the initial report. The men were released at the scene, and the area was cleared without incident. Though the significant police presence raised concerns in the community, authorities emphasized that police had to act based on the information available at the time. The case was officially closed, and the file was deemed unfounded. Police have since assured the public that they are committed to ensuring safety while investigating reports thoroughly.
