From Bella Coola to Haida Gwaii, and across Quesnel, Terrace and the Bulkley Valley, communities throughout northern and coastal B.C. are seeing the impact of major investment in local arts and culture.
In 2024, the B.C. Arts Council (BCAC) awarded over $37 million in grants to more than 1,300 artists and organizations. These funds supported everything from operating costs and infrastructure upgrades to training, community events and Indigenous cultural leadership.
In Bella Coola, festival organizers used grant funding to highlight emerging First Nations performers and preserve language through music. On Haida Gwaii, the Tluu Xaada Naay Society received support for cultural development and business planning rooted in Haida arts. In Terrace and the Bulkley Valley, funding helped expand creative programs and support local artists in reaching new audiences.
The BCAC emphasized its ongoing commitment to reconciliation, equity, and regional access, ensuring smaller and remote communities receive meaningful support.
Applications for fall 2025 grants open soon, including funding for professional development, touring, creative writing, and more.
