A small, initially ‘out-of-control’, wildfire had been reported on private land along Farkvam Road near the Terrace Airport, shortly before 5:00PM on Wednesday, July 16th. The Thornhill Fire Department was quick to respond, with support from a BCWS Officer on-site assisting with danger tree assessment.
Michelle Larstone, BCWS Fire Information Office for the Northwest Fire Centre, confirmed that the fire was considered to be under control by 6:20PM. It was fully contained having grown no larger than 1000 square meters in size.
Larstone confirmed the fire had been reported to the BC Wildfire Service at 4:53PM after a plume of smoke had been noticed in the area. It was quickly determined that its location put it within the jurisdiction of the Thornhill Fire Department, with the Wildfire Service then moving into a supporting role. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
There were no reports of any injuries, or any wildfire related disruptions at the Northwest Terrace Regional Airport.
