Starting July 15, 2025, income-qualified apartment renters and condo owners in B.C. will be able to access up to $5,000 in rebates to install high-performance electric heat pumps through the new Better Homes Energy Savings Program. This initiative targets residents of multi-unit residential buildings (MURBs) currently heated by electricity, such as baseboards, helping them save on energy bills and improve comfort. The B.C. government’s goal is to ensure all residents have access to energy-efficient heating and cooling, expanding support for renters and condo owners after successful programs for single-family homes. In phase one, the program applies to buildings that are six storeys or under, with plans to extend it to buildings using fossil fuel heating later this year. Alongside this, BC Hydro is offering additional rebates for non-income-qualified customers. For full details on how to apply and eligibility, visit the official B.C. government website.
