Deanna Wertz has been missing since July 19, 2016, when she was last seen near her home on Yankee Flats Road in the North Okanagan-Shuswap area. Known as an avid hiker who enjoyed exploring the wooded areas around her residence, Wertz disappeared during one of her usual walks, and has not been heard from since.
Despite extensive searches and investigations led by the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, no evidence or clues have emerged to explain her disappearance. Police have stated that there is no indication her disappearance was criminal in nature, but her family and community continue to seek answers.
Deanna is one of several women who went missing in the region in 2016, yet unlike some others whose cases have seen developments, Wertz’s fate remains unknown. Community advocate Jody Leon has organized renewed search efforts, including a planned search on National Indigenous Peoples Day, June 21, 2025, to look for any sign of Wertz in the Mount Ida area near where other missing women’s remains have been discovered.
Anyone with information about Deanna Wertz is urged to contact local authorities. The community continues to hold onto hope that new leads will come forward, helping bring closure to her family and justice for Deanna.
