Kitimat drivers can expect road closures and detours as the community gears up for a weekend of events leading into Canada Day. The annual Memorial Hill Climb is scheduled for Saturday, June 28, with a rain-out date set for Sunday. Haisla Boulevard will be closed between Kingfisher and Tsimshian boulevards for the duration of the race. A detour will be in place via Kuldo Boulevard. Mountainview Square’s parking lot, next to the vet clinic, will also be closed for event use.
On Monday, June 30, the Riverlodge Recreation Centre hosts a major outdoor concert and fireworks display. The Riverlodge parking lot will be closed to all vehicles except for accessible parking and public transit. Road closures will also affect Peace Street and sections of Kuldo Boulevard. Traffic control crews will be managing the area.
Canada Day celebrations on July 1 include a midday parade, which will shut down the route from 11:50 a.m. to 1 p.m. Peace Street remains closed that day, but the Riverlodge lot will reopen to the public. Transit will be free across Kitimat from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., making it easier for residents to take part in the day’s festivities without driving.
