Interior Health has confirmed a single case of measles in Kamloops. Health officials are currently contacting individuals known to have been exposed, but the risk to the general public is considered low.
If you were at any of the following locations on June 16th or 18th, you may have been exposed:
- Denny’s Restaurant, 570 Columbia St, June 16th, between 12:00 and 2:45 p.m.
- Aberdeen Mall, 1320 Trans-Canada Hwy, June 16th, between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m.
- Earls Restaurant, 1210 Summit Dr, June 16th, between 6:30 and 11:30 p.m.
- Shoppers Drug Mart, 1210 Summit Dr, June 16th, between 9:30 a.m. and 11:35 p.m.
- Castles and Cottages, 347 Victoria St, June 18th, between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
If you’ve never had measles or haven’t received two doses of the measles vaccine, you may be at risk. People who were born after 1970 and haven’t had two doses should consider getting a booster dose within three days of exposure, but it can still be effective if received later.
Certain groups, such as infants under six months, pregnant individuals, and those with immune conditions, should not get the vaccine. If you’re in one of these groups, contact your local public health team for advice. You may be given medication to help prevent the disease.
If you’re unsure of your vaccination status or have concerns, call 1-855-549-6364 and leave a message. The Interior Health communicable disease team will review your situation and provide guidance.
For more information, visit the Interior Health website. You can also check the BC Centre for Disease Control for the latest exposure locations across the province, including flights and BC Ferries.
This is the first confirmed case of measles in the Interior for 2025, but there are other cases in B.C. that could affect local residents, especially with summer travel.
