Canada Post and its second-largest union have reached a new collective agreement, bringing an end to 18 months of negotiations.
The Canadian Postmasters and Assistants Association representing over 8,500 workers, most in rural communities has secured an 11 per cent wage increase over three years.
That includes a 6 per cent raise this year, followed by 3 per cent in 2025, and 2 per cent in 2026. The deal is retroactive to January 1st.
An arbitrator overseeing the talks cited the recent Industrial Inquiry Commission report, which warned that Canada Post is facing a financial crisis and may be “effectively insolvent.” Despite those challenges, the arbitrator said this agreement proves collective bargaining can still work.
The new agreement is in place through the end of 2026.
