A fire ban will be enforced on Nisga’a Lands starting tomorrow, June 20, at 12:00 PM, due to growing concerns over wildfire risks. The ban will restrict Category 2 and Category 3 open fires until at least September 15, 2025, or until further notice. Prohibited activities include burning piles, stubble or grass burning, and the use of fireworks. It also bans the use of sky lanterns, binary exploding targets, air curtain burners, and tiki torches.
However, outdoor stoves that meet safety standards—such as having a flame height no taller than 15 centimeters—are allowed. The ban does not extend to Nisga’a Village lands, where a volunteer fire department provides protection.
The Nisga’a Lisims Government is calling on residents and visitors to comply with the fire restrictions to reduce the risk of wildfires. For updates, visit the Nisga’a Nation website or contact Lands and Resources.
