Measles Cases Confirmed in Northeast B.C., Public Urged to Stay Alert

Northern Health has confirmed several lab-tested cases of measles in the community of Wonowon, about 89 km northwest of Fort St. John. Health officials believe the disease is now circulating in the area, with possible exposure dates going back to late May. In particular, people who visited the Fort St. John Hospital emergency waiting area on June 2 between midnight and 4 a.m. may have been exposed. Measles is a highly contagious disease that spreads through the air and can cause severe complications. Anyone who may have been exposed is urged to monitor for symptoms such as fever, cough, runny nose, and a rash, and to seek medical attention if symptoms develop.
