Terrace’s inaugural Law Enforcement Torch Run, held June 7, was a big success in supporting Special Olympics BC. The event kicked off with an opening ceremony at the RCMP parking lot, with participants from local RCMP, supporting agencies, and community members braving the heat. They proceeded on a 5-kilometer route along the Xpilaxha trail, where athletes and participants exchanged high fives and cheers of encouragement.
A highlight of the event was the participation of special guest Dave Jephson, who brought the original 2010 Vancouver Olympics torch. Athletes had the chance to carry the torch while completing the run. Afterward, participants gathered at the RCMP lot for a barbeque, where prizes were awarded to top fundraisers, and raffle prizes were distributed.
The event raised an impressive $2,150 for Special Olympics BC, thanks to generous contributions from local businesses. Organizers are hopeful that the Torch Run will become a regular annual event to continue supporting this important cause and encourage more community involvement.
