Work to restore the Kitimat Ice Rink is officially underway this week.
Crews will be on-site over the next few days to begin repairs, with the project expected to be completed by fall 2026.
Upgrades to the facility include new electrical systems, flooring, boards with glass and netting, a new score clock, and roof repairs.
The restoration follows a fire at the rink on March 17th. Officials say it took time to fully assess the damage and coordinate with insurers before repairs could move forward.
The District of Kitimat says it’s excited to begin this next phase and looks forward to reopening the rink to skaters in fall 2026.
