Williams Lake and Fort St. John were spotlighted in this year’s Top Collector Awards, a provincial initiative celebrating B.C.’s top facilities for collecting used oil, antifreeze, and other hazardous automotive waste. While Green for Life (GFL) Environmental Depot in Abbotsford took the top spot, Williams Lake’s Jepson Petroleum and Fort St. John’s Co-op Association both earned their place among the top performers. These businesses, along with facilities in Quesnel, Prince Rupert, and Terrace, are leading the charge in recycling efforts across the province. The Top Collector Awards recognize the facilities that have made the most significant impact in keeping used oil and antifreeze out of landfills. These materials, if not properly disposed of, can cause severe environmental damage. Thanks to the dedication of businesses and organizations in towns like Williams Lake, Fort St. John, and Prince Rupert, these harmful materials are being carefully managed and recycled. This year’s awards demonstrate that even small communities across B.C. can make a major contribution to sustainability and environmental protection.
