A dual credit program between Coast Mountains School District and Coast Mountain College is now offering early childhood education courses to high school students in Hazelton, Terrace, and Kitimat.
Students earn both high school and first-year college credits toward early childhood education certification. They also get CPR and first aid training, with costs covered by the school district.
Work placements in local daycares—paid or volunteer—help students gain real-world experience and graduation credits. Several students have already been hired in local childcare centres.
Educators say the program supports both student career goals and community workforce needs.
