The Northern First Nations Alliance is moving forward with a major wellness initiative—a Land-Based Wellness Resort set to open before the end of the year near Terrace. Situated along 3,000 square feet of the Skeena River, the newly acquired property was chosen for its peaceful, natural setting and cultural significance, offering an ideal space for traditional land-based healing.
The 90-day residential recovery program will be delivered in partnership with Red Road Recovery and will serve Indigenous individuals, including men, women, and the 2SLGBTQ+ community. The program will incorporate ceremony, cultural teachings, and trauma-informed care rooted in Indigenous traditions.
The site’s location offers not only therapeutic value but also accessibility to nearby services. While the cost of the land is not being disclosed, the project is supported by the provincial government as part of efforts to respond to the ongoing substance use crisis in a culturally respectful way.
Red Road Recovery will oversee staffing, with a focus on hiring qualified local Indigenous people. In addition, training and capacity-building programs will help prepare community members for future roles at the facility, ranging from wellness practitioners to support staff. The resort is a significant step toward healing and community-led care in Northwest BC.
