The Nisga’a Lisims Government is urging the province to involve them early in the development of new infrastructure legislation. In a letter to Premier David Eby, Nisga’a leaders expressed broad support for Bills 14 and 15, which are designed to streamline approvals for major energy and infrastructure projects across British Columbia.
The Nation is currently leading three significant projects in the Nass Valley: the Ksi Lisims LNG facility, the Prince Rupert Gas Transmission pipeline, and a regional transmission line. These initiatives are central to the Nation’s strategy for long-term economic growth and are expected to bring benefits to the province and the country as a whole.
The Nisga’a Nation says its Treaty rights, which are constitutionally protected, have helped create the kind of legal certainty investors look for. That certainty, they say, has been key to advancing development in the region.
While supportive of efforts to move faster on project approvals, the Nisga’a leadership is emphasizing the importance of meaningful, early engagement. They’re calling for a true partnership approach—one that respects their Treaty and helps avoid legal and political issues down the road.
They say collaboration is essential to ensuring responsible development and lasting reconciliation.
