Children aged 6 to 12 in Prince Rupert will soon have the chance to engage with nature through the newly launched North Coast Ecology Camps. Organized by the North Coast Ecology Centre Society (NCECS) and supported by Trigon Terminal’s Community Investment Fund, these camps will run throughout July, providing hands-on learning experiences for local elementary students. Activities include exploring marine life at the NCECS’s pop-up Ecology Centre in Cow Bay, nature walks, games, and science-based activities that highlight the area’s ecosystems.
The program, designed to run Monday to Wednesday afternoons, will offer four separate sessions, each exploring different ecological themes such as “Coastal Connections: Life along the Water” and “Shoreline to Deep Water.” Trigon’s President, Craig Olley, shared the company’s goal of fostering ecological awareness through responsible operations and initiatives like the camps, which aim to instill a deeper appreciation for the environment.
NCECS also continues to operate seasonal programs and works toward creating a permanent ecological education facility in the region.
