Former NDP MP Taylor Bachrach was briefly up for nomination as Chief of the Kitselas First Nation. His name was among those nominated during the May 2 community meeting, joining a packed race that includes Joe Bevan, Tyler West-Johnson, Victor Wright, Freda Wright, Roxanne Ridler, Glenn Bennett, and Ian Chad Gerow.
However, Bachrach has confirmed to CFNR News that he will be declining the nomination. “I was touched to receive the nomination,” he said, “but will be humbly declining, and I wish the other candidates all the best.”
With 37 people running for council and eight originally nominated for Chief, Kitselas is headed for voting polls on June 12.
The final list of candidates will be confirmed after the May 7 withdrawal deadline. Regardless of Bachrach’s withdrawal, it’s clear the community has a strong and diverse slate of candidates stepping up to lead.
