Snotty Nose Rez Kids, the Haisla Nation duo from Kitamaat Village, made history by winning Rap Album/EP of the Year at this year’s Juno Awards, becoming the first Indigenous group to take home the award in this category. After five nominations, Darren “Young D” Metz and Quinton “Yung Trybez” Nyce celebrated their milestone achievement, proudly representing Indigenous voices through their music. Winning in their home province of British Columbia made the moment even more meaningful for the duo. They also reflected on the support they received from their local community, especially the Coast Salish people, who helped them along their career journey. The win highlights the growing recognition of Indigenous artists in Canada’s music industry and their increasing influence on the cultural landscape.
