Northern Health has issued a toxic drug alert for Dawson Creek after a bright pink pill, sold as fentanyl, was linked to several overdoses. The substance, which can cause an overdose when consumed orally, inhaled, or injected, has resulted in emergency incidents requiring naloxone or hospitalization. The alert urges people to exercise caution and ensure they have overdose prevention training, carry naloxone, and avoid using drugs alone. For those using substances, it’s important to know your tolerance, especially if you’ve recently been ill or reduced your use. People are also advised to avoid mixing drugs with alcohol and to test a small amount first. A temporary overdose prevention site in Dawson Creek is operating daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at 1001 110th Ave. The alert is in effect until February 8, 2025. For immediate help in case of an overdose, dial 9-1-1.
