The Haida Nation and Government of Canada have marked a historic milestone with royal assent of Bill S-16, which recognizes the Haida Nation inherent right to self-governance. The legislation which passed yesterday officially affirms the Haida as self-governing body under deferral law.
This step toward advancing reconciliation and strengthens the relationship between Haida Nation and Canada. The President Jason Alsop acknowledged the importance of the Bill.
