Emergency Department Services at Kitimat General Hospital to be Interrupted Overnight Once Again Due to Physician Shortage

Emergency Department services at the Kitimat General Hospital will be interrupted once again overnight.

Patients will experience interruptions between 7:00 tonight and 8:00 in the morning, as physician support is redirected to Mills Memorial Hospital.

Northern Health pins the interruptions on a lingering shortage of physician coverage which has prompted multiple interruptions of late.

Patients who are experiencing life-threatening symptoms, such as chest pains, difficulty breathing, or severe bleeding, should still call 9-1-1.

Urgent and emergent patients will be transported to the nearest available facility offering appropriate services.
