Wildfire crews in the North Peace are now battling a fire that is more than 40 times the size of the City of Terrace.
Burning just east of Highway 97 in the Tommy Lakes area, the Donnie Creek fire is now covering an estimated 240,000 hectares.
That makes it the second largest single wildfire in BC’s history, though it still pales in comparison to the 520,000 hectare Plateau Fire from 2017.
It is prompting evacuation alerts and orders for a sparsely populated area east of the Highway, north of Prespatou, and south of the Fontas River.
Another fire, just north of there in the Klua Lakes area, is covering 31,000 hectares and prompting evacuation alerts of its own.
Further north, and east of Kotcho Lake, the 13,000 hectare Tooga Creek fire is also leading to an evac alert.
Open fire bans are in place across the province as hot and dry conditions are expected to continue to challenge wildfire crews.
