A pair of new emergency vehicles in the Nass were blessed and named at a ceremony held in Gitwinksihlkw last week.
Elders carried out the cultural protocols and ceremonial blessings of a new service truck and rescue boat to serve the community last Friday.
Known as the Siwineeks Nisga’a, the truck will support the Nisga’a Nation and Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services team.
Meanwhile, the new vessel, aptly named the Nisga’a Guardian, will serve as a Coastal Nations- Coast Guard Auxiliary Search and Rescue vessel.
Members of the Salvation Army’s EDS team and the Nisga’a Lisims Government’s Emergency Response Services Department teamed up to hold the ceremony.
An intro to EDS training course, held by the Salvation Army, followed the event for community members interested in the field.
