Wildfire crews made significant progress fighting a slew of fires in the Peace Region yesterday, thanks in part to co-operative winds.
But, the region is still dealing with all of the Wildfire Service’s active fires of note, which include the four largest active blazes in the Province.
Estimated at nearly 44,000 hectares, the Donnie Creek fire in the Tommy Lakes area, east of Highway 97 remains the largest.
South of there and north of Fort St John, the Stoddart Creek and Red Creek fires are now covering a combined 25,000 hectares.
They have most of the region east of Highway 97 and north of the Peace River covered under either evacuation alerts or orders.
But, an alert which had covered more than 20,000 individuals in Fort St John has now been lifted.
So to has the oldest of the alerts, one which had been in place for the Boundary Lake fire at the Alberta border, which is now listed as being held.
An order has also been lifted and replaced with an alert for the 385 hectare Cameron River fire, west of the Highway.
Evacuation orders issued by the Blueberry and Doig River First Nations also remain active in the area.
