A man was arrested in Fort St John for assault following a shoplifting incident.
At 8:52 pm on May 9, Fort St. John RCMP received a report of an assault after a loss prevention officer was punched by a shoplifter.
Officers arrived at the grocery store located on the 9200 block of 100th street and spoke with the victim and witnesses who described the male shoplifter.
A few minutes later, at 9:09 pm, patrolling officers located a man matching the description of the suspect and arrested him for assault.
The man was on existing conditions to not possess and incendiary devices or flammable products, but was found to be in possession of several lighters.
He is now being held on assault and breach of release order though no charges have been approved.
