In a precautionary effort to prevent human-caused wildfires, the Northwest Fire Centre is set to ban certain fires in some regions this weekend.
Beginning at noon this Saturday, all Category 2 and 3 open fires will be prohibited in the Bulkley and Nadina Fire Zones.
That will cover all open burns in one or more piles larger than two metres high and three metres wide.
It will also ban stubble or grass fires of any size, fireworks, and the burning of windrows of any size, but cooking stoves are still allowed.
Campfires will still be allowed under the ban, so long as they do not exceed half a metre in either height or width.
Category 2 fires are also currently prohibited in the Fort Nelson, Peace, Dawson Creek, and Robson Valley Zones in the Prince George Fire Centre.
