An agreement has been ratified between the Nurses Bargaining Association and the Health Employers Association of BC while BC implements a new staffing model.
A new three year agreement will see wage increases, improved on-call rates, responsibility pay, premiums, expanded mentorship positions, and new initiatives.
Those Initiatives will focus on diversity, equity, inclusion, and Indigenous specific anti-racism.
Meanwhile the wage increases will see a 25 cent raise in year one plus 3.24%, year 2 gets 5.5 % plus a max cost of living adjustment of 6.75%, and year three gets 2% plus a potential living adjustment at a max of 3%.
Retroactively taking effect on April 1 2022, the agreement was made under the Shared Recovery Mandate and comes in addition to a new provincial investment.
That will see $750 million going towards the implementation of a new nurse to patient staffing model to allow nurses to spend more time with patients and provide person focused care.
Under the NBA Provincial Collective agreement, approximately 51,500 registered psychiatric and licensed practical nurses are covered.
