To support the implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the province has established a whole new fund.
The Declaration Act Engagement fund is meant to help First Nations get involved in the process of bringing provincial laws in line with the declaration.
Delivered through the New Relationship Trust, the one time $200 million fund will be available to all First Nations in BC.
Funding can help offset the costs associated with provincial engagement by providing staffing, training, community meetings, and other resources for government to government work.
Though the fund is also an interim solution to support First Nations, while a new fiscal framework is being developed to support Indigenous governments.
