A joint federal and provincial funding program has seen the completion of projects to better prepare BC for flooding.
24 flood mitigation, risk and hazard assessment projects have been completed with the help of $11 million through the National Disaster Mitigation Program.
Those projects were designed to help flood prone communities better withstand floodwaters.
One of the completed projects sees flood mapping by the Nisga’a Lisms Government to cover Gitwinsilkhw, Laxgalts’ap, and Gingolx as well as 16 kilometres of low lying coastline highway.
The Nuxalk Nation also saw flood mitigation planning through a comprehensive plan that assesses existing infrastructure and identified mitigation options, which is critical as a flood prone community.
