A prestigious award has been given to the Williams Lake First Nation, in honour of their efforts to advance economic reconciliation.
They were among nine winners at this year’s BC Economic Development Awards ceremony, held in Penticton on Wednesday.
It saw them recognized for their Sugar Can Cannabis cultivation facility in the Economic Reconciliation category for communities with under 20,000 residents.
Wholly owned by the Nation, the purpose-built facility is BC’s first farm-to-gate cannabis cultivation facility, and utilizes innovative techniques.
While the Awards themselves have been around for over 30 years, it marks just the second year for the Economic Reconciliation category.
