It was a somber day in front of Williams Lake City Hall yesterday, as RCMP worked to remove their third homeless encampment this month.
City staff say neighbours had reported open drug and alcohol use, nudity, and other issues since the tents arrived in Herb Gardner Park.
Camp inhabitants had begun packing up their possessions prior to police arrival, leading to a relatively peaceful tear down.
RCMP say they are working with the City to develop a solution to the growing challenges with homelessness in the community.
While city officials acknowledge the issues must be properly addressed, their bylaws do not allow for camping in City-owned parks.
This month also saw crews work to remove a park-adjacent camp on Scout Island, and one in Boitanio Park.
