A toxic drug alert has been issued following a recent increase in overdose events in the Prince George area.
Northern Health has tracked the cause of the uptick to two separate substances.
One is a light brown or beige coloured substance being sold as down, which testing has revealed to contain up to 20 percent fentanyl.
It is known to cause prolongued sedation, breathing difficulties, strange behaviour, and blackouts.
Little is known about the second substance, other than the fact that it is purple in colour, and also linked to multiple overdoses.
Users are advised to know their tolerance, start small and go slow, always carry a naloxone kit, and to never use drugs alone or mix with alcohol.
Prince George residents can get their drugs tested at Two Doors Down, at 1126 3rd Avenue.
Drug testing services are available from 10:00 to 2:00 Wednesday at Saturday and from 4:00 to 8:00 Tuesday to Sunday.
