Roger William is set to return for a third stint as Chief of the Xeni Gwet’in First Nation.
William, who also served as Chief from 1991 to 2008 and 2013 to 2018, was elected following a tight vote on Wednesday.
Incumbent Chief Jimmy Lulua actually won the first round of voting, outpacing William 65 votes to 56.
But a second round of voting, which narrowed the field from five candidates to two, saw William take the win 116 votes to Lulua’s 98.
Chief William will fill the familiar role for the next 5 years, with Nation members hitting the poles again in June for Council elections.
