New changes to the BC Oil and Gas Commission are intended to increase oversight and modernize the province’s energy regulator.
From now on, the Commission will be known simply as the BC Energy Regulator, in recognition of its expanded role in emerging energy sectors.
In the past, the Commission’s board had been made up of three directors, plus a variety of independent consultants who assisted with oversight.
Now, it will be expanded to include between 5 and 7 directors, and will be required to include Indigenous representation.
That representation will be filled by existing board member Patrick Kelly of the Sto:lo Nation, and new member Ken Cameron from the Saulteau First Nation.
