Skeena Sawmills has become the latest forestry company to implement a temporary shutdown as a result of the weak lumber market.
High operating costs, a weak fibre supply, and regulatory changes have forced numerous BC mills to shut down in recent months.
Those very issues prompted the Terrace-based mill to close their log-scales for a three week period last month.
But, the company says the challenges facing the industry have not improved over that time.
As a result, they are temporarily suspending all operations, including those at the Skeena Bioenergy pellet plant, for an indefinite period of time.
During the downtime, which began today, Skeena says they will undergo a comprehensive evaluation of the fibre supply, and develop innovative solutions.
Skeena Sawmills employs more than 150 local residents, plus contractors and suppliers.
