Impaired and unsafe drivers have been a top issue for Kitimat RCMP for the past few months, and the last week was no different.
RCMP have been forced to hand out two 90 day driving prohibitions and two 30 day vehicle impoundments to impaired drivers since December 8th.
One incident saw officers on patrol catch an erratic driver red handed, while another came after they received numerous reports of an erratic driver on Highway 37.
In an effort to combat impaired driving, police set up a check stop on Highway 37, near Forest Avenue, on December 10th, checking 60 vehicles.
No impaired drivers were found, but several drivers received reminders about properly clearing snow from their vehicles during the winter.
As if the impaired drivers weren’t enough, on the evening of December 8th, police were called to the 1400 block of Kingfisher Avenue for an unsafe driving complaint.
They arrived to find a pick-up truck doing donuts in a parking lot, despite the hazardous winter conditions, and issued the driver a ticket for stunt driving.
