Wet’suwet’en and neighbouring Indigenous youth will soon have access to a safe and accessible healing space, thanks to new Federal funding.
Just over $3.8 million is being invested into the Witset Youth Healing Lodge Project, through the Cultural Spaces in Indigenous Communities Program.
Once constructed, the lodge will serve to guide, support, and empower Indigenous youth between the ages of 12 and 29.
It aims to provide a holistic approach to wellness, and serve as a culturally safe space to heal from mental health issues, addictions, trauma, and other challenges.
Through the sharing of traditional knowledge and life skills, the lodge will connect youth with the tools to strengthen their mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being.
In addition, the facility will play host to a learning centre for arts, crafts, story-telling, language learning, and land-based cultural activities.
