After months of debate, every single MLA in BC has voted in favour of a motion to reject a wage increase for 2023.
Wage increases for MLAs are generally locked to the inflation rate, but this year’s sky-rocketing rate would have resulted in a pay increase of over $10,000 for some.
Recognizing this, and the financial struggles the average British Columbian is currently facing, the opposition Liberals put forward a motion in October to freeze wages.
Yesterday, MLAs voted unanimously in favour of that motion, locking their base compensation rate to $115,000 next year.
