A 16-page paper was put out earlier today by the Centre for ADHD Awareness Canada that expresses the belief that Canada is not recognizing a precursor to mental health conditions.
According to the paper, the underdiagnosis and lack of treatment of ADHD can potentially lead to a lifetime of receiving bad messages, minimal success as well as unfair judgement and additional mental health disorders.
Out of the reported 1.8 million Canadians who have ADHD, 44% of the children and 80% of the adults are reported to have a least one other mental health issue and up to 70% with ADHD have experienced depression at some point in their lifetime.
With October being ADHD Awareness month, the CADDAC is looking to bring more attention to the underdiagnosis of ADHD in the country and the cost that leaving this disorder untreated brings.
