According to a recent announcement, Health Canada has officially approved an updated version of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine that was created specifically to target the Omicron variant, for adults 18 and older.
In that announcement, it was said that this new vaccine has a much higher response to the Omicron BA.1 virus compared to their old vaccine and it apparently is even able to defend against the newest variants of Omicron.
Another thing mentioned in the announcement was that no new safety concerns have popped up in this new version of the vaccine.
It has also been recommended by the National Advisory Committee on Immunization that this updated vaccine be offered to every adult who still needs a fall booster dose.
Shipments of the vaccines are expected to start being sent out to all the provinces and territories next week.
