In an open letter that was sent out back on Wednesday, the president of the Emergency Communications Professionals of BC, Donald Grant, stated that long wait times for a response to emergency calls have unfortunately become commonplace.
And due to this fact, the union representing BC’s emergency dispatch operators are asking for a more competitive wage package in order to hire more staff.
As of right now, wait times for a call to emergency services to get through are reportedly around 5 minutes after previously being only 5 to 10 seconds.
It has also been said that around 125 more staff members can be hired on top of the 153 people that are already employed.
However, there has been no word on what exactly a more competitive wage package for emergency dispatchers will look like.
