BC Housing’s CEO Shayne Ramsay has decided to resign, citing violence, threats, and an unwillingness of communities to help each other as contributing factors.
In a resignation letter posted publicly yesterday, Ramsay says he no longer feels confident he can solve the complex problems facing BC Housing.
Last week, Ramsay was swarmed by opponents threatening physical violence following a media address.
With anger and volatility increasing recently, Ramsay says that he fears an escalation, saying that threats and angry words may only be the beginning.
His letter also speaks of the unwillingness of communities to welcome those from other communities, even when doing so could save lives.
He sites witnessing a recent murder, the recent shootings, and an impending heat heat wave as factors in the resignation.
Ramsay, who has worked at BC Housing for 26 years, says his last day will be September 6th.
