Three organizations will be splitting $3.8 million in fresh provincial funding to help clean up BC’s coastline.
Through the funding from the Clean Coast, Clean Waters fund, the organizations will combine to clean up to 1,000 kms of shoreline.
A partnership between K’yuu Enterprises, the Misty Isles Development Society, and Haida Nation will get $800,000 of the funding.
Through that funding, they will develop a Haida based approach to remove debris from up to 200 kms of coastline.
$2 million will go to the Coastal Restoration Society to clear 400 kms of debris, and remove 30 derelict vessels from the waters.
Another $1 million will go to the Ocean Legacy Foundation to remove another 400 kms of debris from coastlines around Vancouver Island and the central coast.
Through the funding, the province also hopes to add 440 jobs in coastal communities.
