Nearly all sections of the Coastal GasLink pipeline are anticipated to reach mechanical completion by this time next year, according to President Bevin Wirzba.
CGL is expecting to hit the 70 percent completion milestone this summer as they ramp up for peak construction.
A significant step in reaching that milestone is the completion of the Wilde Lake Compressor facility near Chetwynd, which is now 90 percent finished.
But, the estimated cost to complete the pipeline has also ballooned from $6.6 billion to $11.2 billion following a new settlement between TC Energy and LNG Canada
TC says that agreement settles outstanding disputes, adjusts for changes in the energy market, and makes up for other challenges.
This summer, the project will see more than 6,000 workers along the pipeline route, many of whom come from local and Indigenous communities.
To date, pipeline installation has been completed in two of eight sections of the route, with installation yet to begin on just one.
That section happens to be the portion which crosses the Morice River and has received intense opposition from the Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs.
In April, CGL partnered with three Indigenous-led developers, as well as OJ Pipelines, to undertake construction on that section.
