An Indigenous-partnered organization is looking to expand their production of engineered wood products, thanks to provincial funding.
Deadwood Innovations has partnered with the Nak’azdli Whut’en First Nation to process low-quality, damaged, and underutilized fibre into value-added engineered wood products.
Over the past two years, the province has provided Deadwood with over $200,000, which they used to procure and build a pilot plant in Fort St James.
Now, the province and Deadwood are working closely together to finalize funding to turn their facility into a commercial plant, with plant design expected to begin in September.
Through this new technology, the pair aim to reduce forest waste to decrease wildfire risks and the need for pile burning, in turn decreasing emissions.
