A report from the Forest Enhancement Society of BC, released earlier today, has shed light on surprising outcomes from the Province’s $150 million investment under the Low Carbon Economy Leadership Fund.
Namely, it shows the progress that has been made on the Government of Canada’s targets under the Paris Agreement using this fund.
Back in 2017, the Society got $150 million in funding from the Province and as a result, FESB was able to give grants to 134 projects throughout BC which resulted in over 1,300 full time jobs being created, 66 million trees being planted, and getting rid of a level of CO2 that equaled 904,000 gasoline-powered vehicles.
Thanks to these projects, the Society was able to meet the target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the forest sector as well as increase the capture of carbon by restoring forests damaged by disease, insects, and wildfires.
Nine of the projects were highlighted in the report and to read the full thing, click here.
